About the work
Produced on the occasion of Passports: Great Early Buys from the British Council Collection at the Whitechapel Gallery, 2009, artist Sarah Lucas has created a special limited edition of her iconic wallpaper Tits in Space (2000). Her original Tits in Space wallpaper showed a design of cigarette orbs, repeated on a black background. It was first used as the backdrop to a solo exhibition of her work, The Fag Show, at Sadie Coles HQ, London in 2000, her use of cigarettes has been a recurring motif throughout her early work.

Sarah Lucas rose to fame in the early 1990s as a key figure in a generation of 'Young British Artists'. Her work explores multiple aspects of popular culture, expressed through a variety of media and characterised by its bold, defiant approach.
